Hoffy is an old resident of Mossflower where he lives with his family. He is the father of Hoffy II, father-in-law of Brund I, and grandfather of Brund II and Hoffy III. Along with his two grandchildren he is approached by Veil (who is using the alias Bunfold) and offers him food, but instead the young ferret knocks him unconscious and robs him. He is later found by Bryony and Togget who tell him how to get to Redwall, so he travels there with the two babes.
