Gurgan is the large leader of the Waterhogs tribe who sails with them along Mossflower's various waterways aboard rafts that also serve their homes. He is the husband of Rufftip, father of Tragglo (eldest) and six others, great-grandfather of Drogg, great-great-grandfather of Egburt and Floburt, and wields a large tree trunk mallet. He wears floppy boots, brass buckled belt, puts gull feathers in his headspikes to make him appear more threatening, and paints his face white with scarlet polka dots. His tribe participates in the Battle of the Ridge of a Thousand, during which he kills Bluggach after the two exchange some insults, and after Damug's death he moves to Redwall with his clan and becomes Cellarkeeper, with Tragglo succeeding him as the Waterhogs leader.
