Gundil is a resident of Redwall and, during his Dibbunhood, good friends with Egburt and Floburt. When he is around eighteen seasons old he is close with Cregga and Mhera. As his grandfather used to own a mole-shaped flagon he is able to recognize one in the shape of a squirrel which contains a riddle written by Song and helps to solve it. He later succeeds Brull as Foremole.
