Gulo - derived from both gulo (Latin for "glutton") and Gulo gulo (scientific name for a wolverine) - is a huge resident of the Land of Ice and Snow where he lives with his family. He is the son of Dramz, brother of Askor, and leader of an army consisting one hundred white-furred vermin. After assassinating his father as he wants his two sons to rule equally, he pursues his brother after Askor flees with the fabled Walking Stone. He eventually ends up in Mossflower where he becomes obsessed with finding Askor (unaware that his sibling is actually deceased) as well as the aforementioned Stone. He does not wield any weapon for he has wicked claws and teeth, as evident when he literally tears apart several of his own soldiers, and while he is considered to be the least intelligent of any warlord he is one of the few leaders to fight from the front ranks instead of the back or not at all. He appears to have no fear of anybeast and is physically the most powerful of any foes Redwall has ever had to face; his strength is so noted that he is thought to be stronger than a fully-grown male badger. His army is responsible for the ambush during the Marking of the Marches, the capture and devouring of Driftail's gang, and the vicious attack on some Long Patrol hares that sees the stealing of Melesme's drum. While relentlessly pursuing his brother as he thinks he is still alive and hiding the Walking Stone from him, he grows mentally insane and his own soldiers believe him to be even more dangerous than before. He duels with Tam outside Redwall's main gates and is defeated when his adversary throws him onto his sharpened shield, resulting in his immediate decapitation. Any surviving vermin are presumably killed.
