Gullwhacker
Appears In: Mariel of Redwall
Mentioned In: The Bellmaker
This thick piece of knotted rope - possibly based on a nautical knot called "Monkey's Fist" which is a spherical knot used to weigh down the end of a heaving line but can also serve as a weapon - is originally used by Gabool to tie Mariel to a chunk of wood before throwing her into the sea at Terramort. When the mousemaid awakens on a beach some time later she turns the rope into a weapon by fending off some hungry gulls, thus she names it Gullwhacker and adds it onto her name while she is suffering from amnesia. The rope is even more effective when wet as the water adds additional weight, can flick away weapons from enemies, and swung like a flail. It later becomes the Joseph Bell's tolling rope.
