Grumm is a resident of Noonvale and, like all moles, an expert digger. He is the uncle of Bungo, carries a ladle in his belt as he loves making and eating soup, and travels with his best friend Rose to Marshank in search of Brome who has run away from home. Working with Keyla who gives him verbal directions in the form of a song, he digs a tunnel from their hiding place outside the fortress to the Prison Pit. This allows them to rescue Brome, Felldoh, and Martin without being detected, and the tunnel is used many times by both goodbeasts and vermin. He participates in the final battle and mourns heavily when Rose is killed by Badrang, later planting a rose bush on her grave.
