Groddil is the silver-furred High Magician in Trunn's army who presumably originates from the Northern Mountains. He is horribly disfigured and stunted due to a cruel strike to the back by Trunn, who also murders his family; due to these two factors, he secretly despises the wildcat. He falls from favour after failing to capture Stonepaw alive and, along with Fraul, forced to search the caves underneath Salamandastron so they can find the route in which the hares escape. While he succeeds in finding the exit he instead attempts to desert and is swept away by the tide, though Fraul is not so lucky as he is eaten alive by spider crabs. Groddil hides out in an unknown place until Trunn, now paralyzed by Brocktree, washes up near his location. When the wildcat floats up to him and pleads for help, Groddil pushes him back into the water and watches him drown before turning around and wandering off.
