Gritter is a sword-wielding member of Clogg's crew and skilled runner. Along with Bluddnose and Crableg he participates in pursuing the freed Marshank slaves, and just as they are preparing to snatch up Celandine they are attacked by lances and javelins from unseen foes. Crableg is killed as a result, and the other two corsairs believe that Celandine has slain him. As Gritter gets ready to slash at her with his sword he is fatally struck by a javelin from either Ballaw or Felldoh.
