Grissoul - possibly derived from gris, Latin for "grey" - is the ancient Seer in the Juskarath clan who lives with them in northwest Mossflower. She has a twitchy eye, wears a painted barkcloth cloak, bracelets made of coral, brass, and silver, and a belt with many pouches and bones on it, and sports the clan's facial tattoos - a black stripe down the muzzle with crimson dots on either side. She appears to be a successful Seer as she correctly predicts Sawney's death and the Taggerung's origins, and often advises Antigra who wants to take over the tribe. During one talk she reveals that she believes her sole purpose in life is to stop the Juskarath from descending into anarchy, even if she has to "bend the omens" a little and ally herself with different creatures when necessary. After Sawney is killed by Antigra she pretends to summon the ferret's spirit and claim that he has chosen Gruven to be his successor. After the tribe is absorbed into the much larger Juskabor she becomes their Seer along with Ermath. While correctly predicting that Ruggan will be defeated at Redwall's gates she suddenly dies, and although Ermath is shocked at this Ruggan says that she was extremely old. She also predicts that Bor will become the next Taggerung as he had slain Antigra, Sawney's actual killer (she is the only one who knows this as the other vermin were tricked into thinking that Deyna/Tagg had murdered the ferret Chieftain). Grissoul is the only villain to be confirmed to have died from old age.
