Greypatch is a thin resident of Terramort and Captain of Darkqueen who expertly wields several weapons. He wears a velvet patch over one eye and is originally Gabool's first mate, traveling with him to the far southern regions aboard Ratwake to capture Skrabblag. Upon realizing that the King has become mentally insane he deserts with his crew, eventually ending up in Mossflower after escaping some other corsairs who pursue him. While in the woodlands he discovers Redwall and wishes to conquer it, launching numerous attacks that always fail. Due to this the crews' morale starts to diminish, resulting in Bigfang launching a mutiny; he fights and is killed by Greypatch. The final battle against Clary's trio sees only eighteen vermin out of the original one hundred survive, and a disbelieving Greypatch is killed by Oak Tom as revenge for the deaths of Clary and Thyme.
