Great Doomwyte Idol
Appears In: Doomwyte
This huge obsidian statue of a raven with a snake on its head like a crown, located on an island in the middle of the underground sulfur lake within the Doomwyte lair, is highly valued by the army as they believe it gives them their power. The snake's eyes are two green emeralds, and the raven's eyes are two red rubies. These four jewels are stolen by Gonff during the time of Rigvar Skurr as revenge for the brutal execution of two innocent GUOSIM shrews, however when Gonff offers them to his wife Columbine she refuses and says they have witnessed great evil. The Mousethief then hides the jewels around Redwall, leaving behind riddles that will reveal the location of each one. Seasons later his descendants find one of the rubies and attempt to steal it but are discovered and banished from the Abbey, though they keep the jewel and pass it down through the generations. During the events of Doomwyte, Samolus finds Columbine's journal that details the story of Gonff stealing the jewels. This discovery ignites their search, and a group of Redwallers eventually locates all four jewels (but also launches a war between them and the Doomwytes, as Griv realizes the jewels are the same ones that Korvus is trying to find). In the final battle at the vermin cavern, a gigantic chunk of rock falls onto the statue and sends it crashing into the lake. The four jewels are later buried near the area in memory of four heroic moles who perish while attempting to save a trapped Spingo.
