Gliv is a well-built soldier in the Ravagers army and, along with her mate Lugg, loyal to Zwilt. The two act as his spies and secretly kill Dirva when she is sent by Vilaya to spy on the sable Commander. After Lugg is slain by a huge eel she vows revenge against Zwilt, as he had ordered her mate to attack the creature, and steps in just as he is about to decapitate a severely wounded Vilaya following their vicious duel. Since Zwilt thinks he has already killed the Quean, he orders Gliv to bury the body but she secretly nurses Vilaya back to health (and steals her poison dagger in the process so she cannot use it). When the Quean is healthy enough they travel to Redwall where the Ravagers are camped, and she helps her leader dress up as a common fighter. Vilaya takes his opportunity to snatch her dagger and kill Gliv with it, claiming she is no longer of use to her. While Gliv is not the only vermin to show affection towards their mate, she is the only known vermin to verbally express her feelings as she says that although Lugg was a "big lump of a stoat" she loved him.
