Gingivere is a young resident of Kotir where he lives with his family. He is the grandson of Mortspear, nephew of Trunn, son of Verdauga, brother of Tsarmina, husband of Sandingomm, and ancestor of Julian. Unlike his sibling he possesses a good heart, which is why he is framed for their father's death (Tsarmina has always ensured that he gives Verdauga his "medicine") and thrown into a cell for an entire season; his name is forbidden to be spoken. He befriends Coggs and Ferdy after they are captured by Tsarmina, digging small tunnels on each side of his cell so they can enter and exit whenever they wish. The two youngsters then pretend to have completely vanished as to trick the Kotir guards, and to stop Tsarmina from potentially searching the cell Gingivere feigns insanity and claims that his sister has purposely let the hedgehogs escape so she can take their food and water. They are eventually rescued by the CORIM via Mask, and at one point he meets and marries Sandingomm. They move east to a farm where they always welcome the woodlanders, but Tsarmina is unaware of this and believes he is plotting against her. She becomes obsessed with revenge and even kills Squint when she mistakes him for her brother.
