Gerul is a young resident of the Northlands where he lives with his best friend Clecky until they head south where they are found by Martin's group at the Quarry, then they move to Redwall. He has a northern accent and assists in tracking Lask's crew through Mossflower, however he is forced to return to the Abbey after being injured in the ensuing fight. He loses the ability to fly for a while and, while incapacitated, helps in the search for the Tears of all Oceans by solving several of Fermald's riddles. He later participates in the scuffle at Saint Ninian's Church against Scruvo's gang and suffers another injury, though he survives. He presumably stays at Redwall for the remainder of his seasons.
