Folderum is a young resident of Salamandastron and member of the Long Patrol who wields a sword. He joins Violet on an overnight scouting mission and, along with Frubbs and Grumby, put on sentry duty by Felton. During the night Grumby heads to a brook to drink some water and is attacked by some corsairs from Razzid's crew, and Folderum tells Frubbs to get help while he bravely charges at the vermin which allows Grumby to escape and fight alongside him. The two youngsters hold the corsairs off until the rest of the Patrol arrives and pursue the enemy.
