This tribe of small skinny weasels resides in a woodland north of Mossflower, and are notorious for terrorizing travellers by drugging them with herbal smoke (the delirious victims see them appear from the ground, earning them the nickname "The Buried Ones") before capturing and torturing them. They live in underground burrows with sod lids over the entrances and will kill any intruders they do not drug. The tribe first appears during the time of Martin when his group meets them a day's march from Redwall, and they discover that the vermin are keeping Chugger hostage. The mouse Warrior tricks the superstitious weasels into believing his sword is magic, and they use ramsoms to stop the smoke from overpowering them; Garraway's holt later attack and kill most of the tribe. Many seasons later they appear again, this time led by one called Snidjer, and are closely watched by Stonehead who enjoys eating them. They capture Mariel's group but forced to flee by Stonehead. After the final battle against Clary's patrol, Deadglim and Fishtail are tricked by Oak Tom into entering the Flitchaye territory and both corsairs, along with their respective crews, are killed by the vicious tribe. Innumerable seasons later they make another appearance when they attack Buckler's group, but Jango and Sniffy are aware they are in the weasels' home and prepare accordingly. The tribe are defeated, tied to a tree, and forced to inhale their own smoke until they fall unconscious.
