Flinky is a sling-wielding member of Burrad's band and the mate of Crinktail who, like them, originates from the Northlands. He is considered to be the most popular in the group and quite wily, often using flattery to get what he wants. After a scuffle with Bragoon and Saro (whom he has heard of) that sees Burrad accidentally being killed by Skrodd, then the fox being slain by Dargle and Badredd naming himself the new leader, Flinky mentions a magic sword hidden within Redwall. Along with Slipback he almost succeeds in assassinating Badredd but fail when Plumnose unknowingly warns the young fox, and after this Badredd becomes more wary of Flinky's sly tongue. The band manages to conquer the Orchard and Pond but Badredd realizes they need reinforcements, so he asks him and Crinktail to find some. The pair plan on deserting but are captured by Bol who forces them to tell him about Badredd's current position. The corsairs take them to Redwall where they promptly enslave them, particularly Badredd who becomes Bol's personal servant. As he had originally disagreed with Badredd's decision to launch an assault on Redwall, he helps the band to escape by distracting an unintelligent Blowfly into leaving them unguarded. They escape south and, with him as their new Chieftain, wander around until they find a good spot with food and water. Flinky is unique in that he wishes for the gang to simply live in peace, not even wanting to get involved with Bragoon and Saro, and he appears to greatly care for Crinktail.
