Firty is a very short crew member aboard Bludgullet who wields a cutlass. Along with Codj he is sent out to spy on Redwall and hears Orkwil's pleas for help, capturing the young hedgehog and bringing him to the ship where he is tied to the mast alongside Gorath. Some time later he is part of a group of forty corsairs in the attempt to tunnel into the Abbey via the ditch along the path, and works with Gerna to locate a good starting point. They end up running into Dirril and Tantail who beat them soundly but they both survive. He is one of five to leave with Vizka so they can flee aboard their vessel but, after witnessing the fox's cowardice during the Battle of the Plateau as well as the unnecessary murders of Glurma and Jungo, decides to desert him. While the other four are running off he hangs back to throw insults at his former leader before joining them.
