Finnbarr Galedeep, Captain

Gender: male

Species: sea otter

Appears In: The Bellmaker

Finnbarr is a large resident of an unknown place and Captain of Pearl Queen who expertly wields two basket-hilt curved swords that, when not in use, are strapped onto his back. He has one eye, one year, a scar-riddled body, and is the presumed descendant of Kolun, Lorgo, and Toobil and his siblings. At one point he has a wife and two sons, however they are killed by Slipp and Strapp's crews who commandeer his prized ship. When Joseph approaches him about traveling to Southsward to free the land from Nagru's evil reign he immediately agrees to help and conceives a plan to win back his vessel. He manages to steal her from Slipp and is pursued by the corsairs, but he uses his nautical skills to outmaneuver Shalloo and cause her (along with Slipp and his crew) to be swallowed up in the Green Maelstrom. Upon arriving in Southsward the group helps to fight Nagru's horde, and Finnbarr confronts the Foxwolf when he attempts to desert. During their duel he is stabbed by Bladetail but ignores his injury, lifting Nagru up and shoving his head into a nearby tree which causes the wolf fangs on his helmet to dig into his brain and kill him. With Joseph by his side, a mortally wounded Finnbarr dies a few minutes later facing his beloved sea and dreaming of sailing aboard his ship. His twin swords are given to Joseph, then handed down to Durry (who names his blade "Finnbarr") and Rufe (who names his blade "Fatch" in memory of a brave GUOSIM shrew).
