Fieldroan is a wanderer who writes down his travels on scrolls, and in his old age he is good friends with Lorquin. During one winter he journeys to Redwall where Hubert allows him to stay in the Gatehouse, and prior to leaving he gives the Abbey Recorder a few of his scrolls with one containing directions to Terramort in the form of a riddle. This is later used by Mariel's group when they travel to the corsair island.
