Fermald is an ancient resident of Redwall who lives by herself in the Attic. She enjoys trying to catch Grimjaw while fishing in the Pond, carries a beautifully carved wooden spoon, and often speaks of mysterious riddles and rhymes. She becomes friends with a mortally wounded Graylunk when he arrives at Redwall, caring for him until he wanders back into Mossflower to die. Before he leaves she gives him her spoon and he hands her the Tears of all Oceans, which she hides around the Abbey with a small but tricky riddle attached to each that reveals the next location when solved.
