Feral Cat Army of Green Isle
Species: cats
Appears In: High Rhulain
This army of at least two hundred feral cats is led by Riggu Felis and has been around since the events of Salamandastron. There are two types of officers within the army: Weilmarks (also called Captains of the Guard), and Scorecats (each commands twenty catguards). Felis claims that in the beginning feral cats are slaves to their more powerful masters until they are freed by wildcats, then the ferals serve the wildcats. They are responsible for almost decimating the Wildlough line when they kill the High Queen Rhulain Wildlough after pursuing and boarding her ship, as well as severely wounding Corriam, and this attack seemingly ends the Wildlough's rule on Green Isle. The cats then conquer the island and live in a wooden fortress by a lake (formerly home to the ruling otter family), enslaving the resident otters for an innumerable amount of seasons. They are extremely cruel to the captives, tying them to the underwater pier overnight or throwing them to the terrifying Slothunog, however over time many escape and form outlaw clans. Perhaps the most famous outlaw is Leatho, whom the cats both hate and fear due to his courage and determination. Despite their fearsome leader, the otters are no match for the cats' extensive collection of weaponry and training. The vermin wear full body armour and wield spears for close-range attacks, bows for long-range fights, as well as daggers and swords. Although they are badly outnumbered and outmatched, the otters led by Leatho continue to assault the fortress in hopes of freeing their enslaved friends and killing Felis. After Leatho is captured the clans still fight even though they are aware they will probably lose and if they happen to win Leatho will be executed. In the final battle they are saved by the timely arrival of Tiria and the Long Patrol hares, who join them in the fight. Thanks to Brantalis and Pandion working together, Leatho is freed from the burning fortress tower and Felis killed by the well-aimed throw of the barbed iron star from Tiria. Most of the catguards attempt to flee upon seeing their leader dead but most are slain by the goodbeasts. Those who perish are thrown into the blazing fortress alongside the body of Felis, however prior to the final battle a big group led by Pitru leave. They set up camp along Deeplough's Rim, aware the otters must cross here to get to Holt Summerdell. When the clans arrive here they fight the vermin, with Cuthbert becoming afflicted by the Bloodwrath and literally throwing himself at the cats. He kills Pitru and many other guards before leaping onto Slothunog and slaying the beast, who then drags him and the dead cats into the bottomless lake. This final battle spells the end of the cats' evil reign.
