Farran is a black-furred assassin who follows Ferahgo's horde and speaks with gestures instead of words. He has amber eyes, walks on all fours, wears an adderskin belt with pouches made from bat skin, and wields a greenhart wood dagger tipped with poison. He is hired by Ferahgo to infiltrate Salamandastron and poison their supplies, swiftly killing Windpaw with one swift flick of his dagger when she runs past him during battle. While he manages to poison some water he is discovered and forced to flee when Shorebuck dies suddenly at breakfast, but trapped in a cul-de-sac inside a lower chamber where he is killed when Urthstripe force-feeds him his own poison. After the final battle Klitch is wandering the mountain when he happens upon some water and, unaware that it is the same liquid Farran had previously poisoned, drinks it. He dies very shortly after.
