Elmtail is a young slave in the Kingdom of Malkariss who originates from an unknown place. He saves Matthias from being killed by a Blackrobe Rat soldier, then freed by the mouse Warrior and taken to Redwall with the other rescued prisoners. He is adopted by Jess and Sam, and forms the Mossflower Patrol with the latter.
