Ellayo is an old resident of Mossflower who lives here with her family. She is the wife of Gawjo, mother of Janglur, mother-in-law of Rimrose, grandmother of Song, and carries a blackthorn stick which also doubles as a weapon. Not long after their son is born, her husband learns of Marlfoxes in the area and heads out to fight them but never returns, and she spends many seasons searching for him but never appearing to give up hope. In her old age she moves to Redwall when the vermin reappear and plays a big role in defending the Abbey, using her healing skills to tend to any wounded inhabitants. After the Marlfoxes have been vanquished she and Gawjo are reunited thanks to Song finding him on her trip to Marlfox Island, and they decide to permanently stay at Redwall.
