Dwink is a young resident of Redwall and about the same age as his best friend Bisky, with the two often getting into mischief which lands them on the Abbot's Report. He is the husband of Perrit, father of Mittee, and the only known character to be married to an Abbey ruler. He participates in the investigation of underground tunnels and later joins several others on searching for a missing Bisky and Dubble, however when he is allowed to capture a Painted One for interrogation during an ambush on the Gonfelin Thieves by the vermin he ends up getting caught and is nearly killed by Jeg before being rescued by Bisky and Spingo. Some time later, while arguing with Tugga about the treatment of the vermin tribe, he suffers a broken footpaw when the shrew Chieftain shoves him into a ditch. After this he is forced to use a wheelchair for a while, being pushed around by Perrit and Umfry, and receives a vision from Martin who tells him that one of the found Great Doomwyte Idol jewels must be watched. Aluco offers to guard it, and it is revealed that Tugga plans on stealing the jewel to frame Nokko who had insulted the shrew earlier. Dwink helps to locate a ruby and, after learning to walk with his cast on, joins his friends on the trip into Mossflower to search for the other jewels. They run into Blodd who tricks them into drinking her powerful mead, but Gullub is not as intoxicated as his friends and saves his pals. After the Doomwytes are defeated he marries Perrit, and they become parents to Mittee.
