Drufo is an old slave at Riftgard who originates from the mountains upriver. He is close friends with Rocc and Triss, having fought alongside the former when he was slain by Ratguard soldier; after this fight he and an infant Triss are captured and made slaves at the fortress. He often acts as Kurda's assistant by throwing turnips into the air for her during her sword practices, secretly working with Triss to clean up the mess and give the leftovers to their fellow prisoners. When Shogg, Welfo, and the squirrelmaid are thrown into a half-submerged punishment cage he gives them a file so they can cut through the bars, leading a small rebellion as a distraction when they escape. He steals Flith's spear and protects the jetty where they are, ensuring they flee aboard a small ship and refusing to budge when Triss urges him to join them as he claims he has always planned to stand and fight so they can be free. He is then killed when Kurda runs him through with her sabre, and his murder is later avenged when the Princess accidentally slays herself while running away from Triss.
