Dippler is a young GUOSIM member whose logboatWaterfly is destroyed by Marlfoxes and on guard duty when Mokkan and Ziral steal the other boats. As a result Fenno constantly bullies him but stopped when Log a Log steps in, and after this Dippler greatly admires his leader. Some time later he is in Great Hall with his pals Dann and Song when they are attacked by Ascrod and Vannan, who kill Nutwing and injure the trio before taking off with Martin's tapestry; he is almost killed by the vixen's axe but saved thanks to his large helmet, getting knocked unconscious instead. Upon awakening he is enraged to hear that Log a Log had been murdered by Fenno who then fled, and he vows to avenge his leader's death. He learns that Martin has chosen him to join Dann and Song (three of the Four Chieftains) on the trip to Marlfox Island and retrieve the tapestry, with the trio meeting Burble along the way. Not long before arriving at their destination he is ambushed by Fenno who steals his rapier and forces the younger shrew to use Martin's sword. Despite being smaller, Dippler is victorious when he snaps the rapier blade in half and fatally stabs Fenno in the back. He participates in the final battle and returns to Redwall where he learns that whomever kills Fenno must become the GUOSIM's new leader, and thus he is named Log a Log.
