Dinny is a young resident of Mossflower who wields a pike, sling, and daggers, and understands molescript. He is the grandson of Old Dinny, grandfather of Togget, direct ancestor of Foremole (Redwall and Mossflower), and an expert digger. He helps to solve Boar's Riddle, joins Gonff and Martin on the trip to Salamandastron, befriends the Bat Mountpit inhabitants, and digs at almost a ninety-degree angle upwards to get a net while in the Screamhole. After participating in the final battle against the Thousand Eye Army he becomes Redwall's first Foremole and accompanies Martin on the journey to the North Shores.
