Derron is a resident of Salamandastron, Captain in the Long Patrol, and considered to be the best with a sabre. He is one of fifty hares to remain at Redwall while Tam leads the other half to pursue Gulo, killing Graddu when he and Fargil try to spy on the Abbey. Some time later he discovers a decoy by Zerig while the vermin are attacking Redwall, so the Long Patrol allow them inside before locking the gate and slaying them all. He acts as one of six marshalls during the final fight between Gulo and Tam, works with Wonwill to kill the last six vermin soldiers, and returns to Salamandastron.
