This vicious rat tribe is led by Hemper (he and Birug are the only two named members) and resides in Mossflower south of Redwall. They have spotted white-brown fur and enjoy capturing innocent travelers to eat later, as shown when the three Abbey youngsters are caught. The trio are rescued by Bragoon and Saro but pursed by several rats led by Birug, and he and the others are killed in a landslide.
