Dannflower - commonly known as Dann - is a young resident of Redwall where he lives with his father Rusvul, having moved here after his mother (who gives him his name, though Rusvul wants his son to be called "Dannblood") passes away from unknown causes. He quickly befriends Dippler and Song, and is guarding the tapestry with them the night Ascrod and Vannan sneak inside. The two vermin kill Nutwing, knock out the three young sentries, and steal the precious tapestry. After waking up he is berated by an angry Rusvul who calls him a coward for allowing the piece to be taken, and some time later Dann remembers a dream he had of Martin who instructs the trio to travel to Marlfox Island and retrieve the tapestry. Along the way he carries the famous sword, and after meeting Burble they are known as the Four Chieftains. He is briefly stricken with the Bloodwrath while attacking Raventail, only stopping when Song intervenes. The four pals eventually reach Marlfox Island after meeting various friends and foes, successfully freeing the woodlander slaves and defeating Mokkan. They return to Redwall with the recovered tapestry, Dann accepts his father's apology, and he becomes Abbey Warrior. "Reg" is the Latin root for "royalty" as well as the root for words like "honest" and "proper".
