Corksnout - so named because he has a keg cork (attached to his headspikes by a string) for a nose after losing it in a past battle - is the old Abbey Cellarkeeper and the grandfather of Umfry. He is considered to be the largest hedgehog that has ever lived, though Umfry eventually grows even bigger than him, and assists in the search for the Great Doomwyte Idol jewels. While removing a dead Tarul from the grounds he is attacked by Baliss, who gets the two scents confused and accidentally headbutts him instead. Numerous spikes become painfully embedded into the adder's head, and a terrified Corksnout runs back inside where it is discovered that he has only suffered some spikes being pushed into his rear; these are removed by Torilis.
