Constance is the older Badger Mother of Redwall and good friends with Matthias whom she helps to solve Martin's riddle. She plays a very large role in the Late Rose Summer Wars by often showing off her immense strength and bravery, two attributes that cause Cluny's horde to both hate and fear her. Along with Beaver she constructs a gigantic crossbow in hopes of assassinating the Scourge, however they end up killing Cheesethief in a case of mistaken identity. Seasons later she helps defend her home against Ironbeak's flock, assists in rescuing an injured Styrk, and acts as Martin's voice when Cornflower dresses up as the mouse Warrior in hopes of scaring the invaders away; during this troubled time she is viewed as the Abbey leader. She becomes very close with Orlando when Matthias's group returns with the rescued youngsters and helps to rear Auma into adulthood, teaching her all she knows so she can succeed her as Badger Mother. She eventually passes away from old age. Constance is based off of Mr. Jacques' maternal grandmother, Sissy McGinniss.
