Codj is the young first mate aboard Bludgullet and, because he is Vizka's younger brother, second-in-command. He is smart, arrogant, power-hungry, quite cruel, and earns the nickname "Stumple" because he has a stump for tail after losing it in a previous fight. During the corsairs' attack on Gorath's family at the Northern Isles he works with Balid to purposely lock the badger's elderly grandparents inside their home before lighting it ablaze, burning them alive. He initially wants a captured Gorath killed but quickly takes a liking to tormenting the prisoner, who has been tied to the ship's mast, however he also signs his death warrant as the badger wants revenge for his grandparents' horrific murder. Upon arriving in Mossflower he leads a search party to seek out Redwall, and while they fail in locating the place they do succeed in snatching up Orkwil and tying him beside Gorath. One night the young hedgehog frees both himself and his new friend, keeping their freedom hidden from Codj who appears outside to check on them. He is immediately strangled to death by an enraged Gorath, then later wrapped in cloth weighed down by an iron chain and buried at sea.
