Chab is a young resident of Green Isle and slave at Felis's fortress. He has a wife and three children, including at least one daughter, and is caught by Scaut hiding mussel pearls underneath his footpaw as he says they are toys for his offspring. As punishment for so-called thievery he is tied to the fortress pier for one night, and later attends the outlaw meeting with his friend Whulky. The following morning they attempt to return to the fortress but are spotted by the cats and refuse to tell them about the aforementioned meeting, so they and their respective families are tied to the pier with the warning from Felis that they will all be thrown to Slothunog if they still do not speak. Banya, Kolun, and Leatho (with help from Memsy who tells him about their possible fate) rescue the group and bring them to the coast. He later participates in battle against Felis's army and, after the warlord's defeat, becomes a Water Bailiff.
