Calla is an infant resident of a farm located southeast of Redwall where he lives with his family. He is the great-grandson of Feryn, grandson of Adarin, son of Clerun and Clarinna, twin brother of Urfa, and nephew of Buckler. They are viciously attacked by Zwilt who murders his father, severely woulds his mother, and kidnaps both him and his sister. The babes are take to Althier and thrown into a cave alongside the other captives who help care for them due to their age, and during their escape they are carried as they are still learning to walk. The prisoners are tended to by Mumzy until it is safe for them to return home, and his family moves to Redwall. As he is the oldest child of Clerun, the broadsword should be passed down to him but Clarinna says he will grow up to be a peaceful creature and will not need the weapon so it is given to Buckler.
