This band of thirteen vermin - five weasels, two stoats, two rats, two foxes, and a ferret - originates from the Northlands and first led by Burrad's father until his death, then Burrad takes over and leads them south to Mossflower. Skrodd becomes the new Chieftain after he accidentally kills Burrad during a scuffle with Bragoon and Saro, however he and Dargle soon slay each other. Badredd names himself the leader after stealing Burrad's cutlass from a dead Skrodd, and leads them to Redwall upon hearing of Flinky's story about a supposedly magic sword there. Despite their small numbers they do eventually succeed in opening a wallgate and imprisoning the woodlanders inside their own home, however after a few days Badredd realizes he needs more soldiers and has Crinktail and Flinky head out to find them. The two stoats are captured by Bol's crew and forced to reveal the band's current position, so Bol travels to Redwall where he immediately enslaves them and makes Badredd his servant. The band flees thanks to Flinky's craftiness, and head south while looking to him as their new leader. One member of the band is never mentioned, possibly because Mr. Jacques thought he was writing about a twelve-member band instead of thirteen members.
