Bungo is a rascally Dibbun of Redwall where he lives with his mother and younger sister. Along with his best friend Tubspike he welcomes the Traveling Thistledown Troupe when they arrive at the Abbey, and is part of the audience when Bulbrock speaks of the supposedly mythical Snow Badger. Upon awakening first the following morning, Bungo opens a Dormitory window just as the mysterious being is frosting the windowpanes. They quickly become friends and he gives Bungo a small pouch containing an ice crystal and riddle, but nobeast believes the little mole until Bulbrock reveals that he too once saw the Snow Badger and shows them the same pouch. After solving the puzzle, Bungo discovers that his home is completely covered in snow.
