Bull is the mentally insane King of the Sparra tribe who lives with them in the Abbey Roof. He is the brother of Dunwing, brother-in-law of Greytail, uncle of Warbeak, and quite intelligent despite his paranoia. While out with Greytail searching for some worms in Mossflower he drops Martin's sword when they are attacked by Asmodeus, and demands the other sparrow retrieve it. Greytail obeys and is fatally bitten, but manages to return to the Roof where he tells his wife what actually happened while Bull lies to the tribe and says the injuries are due to a starling fight and claims he still has the famous sword. Many seasons later he has Matthias captured when the young mouse climbs up to their home, but spares his life thanks to pleas from his sister and niece. Upon noticing that Matthias's belt is made from the same leather as the scabbard he takes it. He is later tricked by Dunwing into thinking that a dying Asmodeus has been spotted in Mossflower with the sword, so he hides the scabbard and belt in an armchair before flying off with some of his fellow sparrows. He discovers nothing and heads back to Redwall, only to discover Matthias standing on the Roof holding the scabbard and belt. The angry King attacks him and is knocked unconscious by the scabbard, sending him falling off the Roof and taking Matthias with him. He ends up drowning in the Pond, though a bit of his beak is discovered in Matthias's shoulder. Due to his personality, Bull is considered to be a "grey character".
