Buckworthy Crumshaw, Brigadier
Gender: male
Species: hare
Appears In: Rakkety Tam
Buckworthy is an old resident of Salamandastron and well-seasoned Brigadier in the Long Patrol. He wears a monocle, carries a swagger stick, commands one hundred fighters sent to retrieve Melesme's stolen drum from Gulo's horde, and immediately befriends Doogy and Tam. After helping Tergen with his depression, he is affectionately called "Brigadier Wotwot" by the bird (much to Buckworthy's confusion and the amusement of others), and upon arrival at the Abbey he suffers an arrow to the shoulder. Armel puts his arm in a sling and he is forced to stay behind while Tam takes half of the Long Patrol squad to pursue Gulo's soldiers who have fled. He quickly grows restless when the hares strike a deal with the rest of the vermin to meet them on the field west of Redwall, and when he refuses to back down Wonwill reluctantly knocks the stubborn Brigadier unconscious with a swift uppercut. He is put in the Gatehouse to recover and awakens just as Freeta leads some soldiers in sneaking into the Abbey grounds via a wallgate, charging at the vermin with his arm still in the sling. He is shot in the chest with two arrows and viciously slashed in the face by Freeta's sword but fights on, using his last breath to grab the blade and kill her with it. The two are discovered not long after, and he is temporarily laid to rest underneath Martin's tapestry before being buried in a special place on the Abbey grounds.
