Brinty is a young resident of Redwall where he lives with his best friends Girry, Tiria, and Tribsy. He helps them in rescuing a wounded Pandion from Groffgut's gang, beating the rat leader until he is stopped by Tiria. This results in an enraged Groffgut swearing vengeance against the mouse, who now dreams of becoming a warrior. Some time later he assists in forcing a huge gannet through the main gates, however while celebrating he is cruelly murdered by Groffgut, as the rat has been waiting in the ditch and seizes his chance when Brinty has his back to him. His death is swiftly avenged as Groffgut is killed by Banjon with the Lance of Corriam. Brinty is then dressed by Grudd's crew for his burial, and he is laid to rest in a special place on the Abbey grounds. Tiria later learns of her friend's untimely death from Brantalis during a feast on Green Isle, and she departs to grieve by the lake. Leatho joins her, and together they honour Brinty by tossing a wood effigy of a mouse into the water with flowers.
