Brightback is a member of Ironbeak's flock and originates from the Northlands. Along with his brothers Diptail and Quickbill, he acts as a forager and scout. The Redwallers realize this and capture the trio to use in a hostage exchange. In the final battle one of them is killed (not specified which brother), and the survivors are outfitted with a special collar that prohibits them from flying too high.
