Brantalis - derived from Branta leucopsis, the Latin name for his species - is a resident of an unknown place and member of the Skyfurrow skein, making him a presumed descendant of Olav. He often says "I am thinking..." before speaking his thoughts and is wounded by an arrow from Felis's catguards, receiving treatment from Leatho before escaping Green Isle. He manages to fly to Redwall where he is healed by Perant, and while here he meets Pandion with the two birds squabbling quite a bit. When Tiria leaves for the island he decides to stay behind where he helps to solve Geminya's riddle and fight off a huge gannet. After the High Queen Rhulain's coronet is discovers he flies it to Green Isle so he can give it to Tiria, and during the final battle he and Pandion work together to rescue Leatho from the burning fortress. In the middle of the celebratory feast that follows, he delivers the sad news to Tiria about Brinty's death. He is later named "Queen's Courier" and "Official Messenger to Redwall Abbey", flying to and from the island and Abbey with messages from Lycian as well as Tiria.
