Bowly is a young resident of an unknown place who gets captured by Agric and Spurge while wandering far south of Mossflower. He is rescued by Dandin and Mariel, dreams of becoming a warrior like them, and aids in rescuing Furpp and his nephews. After Deekeye challenges him he stands his ground, as he needs to prove his worth so the hedgehog tribe can join him in battle against Nagru's horde. Thanks to his determination, he gains their allegiance and is allowed to lead them. Along with recruiting some mice he also takes Meldrum's four nephews in finding reinforcements. During the final battle he guards Fatch and Rufe when the former is killed by Silvamord, and after Nagru's death he visits Redwall before accompanying Dandin and Mariel aboard Pearl Queen in search of adventure.
