Blaggut
Gender: male
Species: sea rat
Appears In: The Bellmaker
Blaggut is a resident of an unknown place and originally serves as boatswain aboard Pearl Queen. He is not highly intelligent and possesses a kind heart. After Finnbarr's group takes the ship back he and his leader Slipp are the only survivors, and they eventually end up in Mossflower where they are found by Furrtil and Mousebabe who take them to Redwall. While here he discovers his carpentry skills but is constantly berated by Slipp who demands he ask the two babes about their "secret treasure", and just as the corsairs are about to dig the goods up they are spooked by a mysterious black shadow and forced to run back inside the Abbey. Some time later they return to the spot only to find the supposed treasure is just toys, and an angry Slipp threatens the infants. He is stopped when Mellus intervenes but he kills the badger, and he drags a horrified Blaggut into Mossflower. Blaggut, disgusted at his leader's cruelty and tired of his insults, fatally strangles him. He returns to Redwall with a gold-and-silver chalice that Slipp had previously stolen, reveals the killing to his friends, and respectfully declines when the Abbey inhabitants ask him to stay as he says he wishes to live alongside a Mossflower stream. He promises the Dibbuns that he will visit again, which he does some time later when he tells them of Pearl Queen's return. Blaggut is considered to be a "grey character".
