Beauclair - commonly known as Beau - is a resident of an unknown place who cannot remember his full name until somebeast reminds him. He serves as an oarslave aboard Goreleech for two seasons before being tossed into the ocean for being too weak, and becomes marooned on an island home to vicious vermin. He disguises himself as a monster he calls "Werrgoola", and as the vermin believe him to be an island spirit they leave him alone, and successfully grows fresh fruit for himself. He remains here until he is found by Luke's tribe and brought onto Sayna where he entertains them with ballads, and later becomes head cook and good friends with Cardo. While they are following Daskar's ship he is swept into the sea during a wicked storm and ends up on the lee side (protected from the wind) of one of the Twin Islands, and is reunited with Vurg after Sayna is purposely destroyed by Goreleech. They attempt to construct a raft and receive much-needed assistance from Bolwag, who also pulls the raft until they reach the corsair ship. The two friends then use her wake to hide and travel in - hence the name of Vurg's account of the epic tale, In the Wake of the Red Ship - and pretend to be "Sea Bogles" by stealing food and weapons from the vermin to give to the slaves. In addition they cause chaos aboard the vessel and prepare the prisoners for a rebellion. He participates in the final battle, is one of four to survive the crash at Tall Rocks, and lives on Arfship with the other three (Denno, Dulam, and Vurg respectively) for many seasons until they are found by Martin's group who later take them to Redwall.
