Battle of Terramort

Occurs In: Mariel of Redwall




This large but brief battle, taking place on Terramort Isle, is between the TRAG and Gabool's corsairs. It starts when the former steal all of the latter's ships, and the vermin are forced to remain inside Bladegirt. The woodlanders plan on using the island's many tunnels to attack, with one exiting behind the fortress. They then start launching arrows and slingstones at the guards, however while the vermin fight back they do not have the necessary weapons and flee when Tarquin leads some TRAG members in using a battering ram against the main gates. During all this, Joseph and Rawnblade lead an assault from the fortress's rear; the Bellmaker attacks the vermin whilst the Badger Lord rolls a huge boulder into the walls. Rawnblade then heads into Bladegirt in search of Gabool, and although Josephs's group are outnumbered they are rescued when Mariel's band pushes through the gates with the battering ram. Most of the rats are killed, including several Captains, and Gabool is hiding out in his fortress when he is spotted by Rawnblade. He then bolts to a room located at the bottom of the fort that holds Skrabblag, and when Rawnblade appears he challenges him to a duel. The enraged badger runs forward but falls into the pit and is immediately attacked by Skrabblag, however Martin's spirit enters his body and spurs him into grabbing the beast's tail and flinging him out of the hole. When Rawnblade climbs out he sees the scorpion stabbing Gabool multiple times with his stinger, resulting in his swift death. Skrabbleg is then cut in half by Dandin with Martin's sword, Bladegirt is burned and abandoned, and the victorious woodlanders set sail for Redwall aboard the commandeered corsair vessels.
