Battle of Salamandastron

Occurs In: Salamandastron




This large final battle occurs at Salamandastron between the Long Patrol (and later the GUOSSSOM and others such as Mara and Pikkle) and Ferahgo's horde. It first starts when Ferahgo orders his army to carry two torches per creature to make it appear as if their numbers are larger than what they actually are, in hopes of causing Urthstripe and his hares to be on guard all night while the vermin rest. This plan fails immediately when the Long Patrol realize what Ferahgo is up to, so the weasel Assassin - who is aware the mountain defenses have more than enough supplies to survive many assults - has Farran sneak inside and poison all the food and water supplies. Urthstripe challenges Ferahgo and Klitch to combat in exchange for Salamandastron, but Ferahgo secretly plans to ambush him and tells his son Klitch this is how he defeated the Badger Lord's father many seasons prior. This works as Urthstripe is severely wounded, and Oxeye takes total command of the forces. Despite their best efforts the Long Patrol starts to wear down thanks to the Corpsemakers' relentless push, but reinforcements arrive in the form of Loambudd, Samkim, the GUOSSSOM, and others. Urthwyte charges through the enemy in hopes of reaching his long-lost brother, but Ferahgo spots him and prepares to leap onto his back from behind. A mortally-wounded Urthstripe suddenly appears, grabs the weasel warlord, pulls him in close, and uses the last ounce of his strength to throw them both from the top of the mountain fortress. They both perish in the fall and the leaderless Corpsemakers are defeated. Urthwyte succeeds his brother as Lord and proudly wears the badger medal Ferahgo had stolen from their father.
