Battle of Malkariss

Occurs In: Mattimeo




This large final battle occurs in the underground Kingdom of Malkariss between the Blackrobe Rats army and Matthias's group. In the first part, the pursuers fight Nadaz's soldiers but start to grow tired thanks to the relentless vermin and Log a Log suffers an arrow to the neck. Flugg (who is named the new leader) helps his shrews in taking their Chieftain outside so he can die in the sunlight, however before they can do this Log a Log overhears shouting and orders his tribe to investigate. The yelling is from Mattimeo's friends who are rescued as a result, and Log a Log passes away knowing he has fulfilled his promise of finding Matthias's son. After this tragic loss, the mouse Warrior duels against the gigantic Wearet who eventually sends him flying over the cliff. A Bloodwrath-afflicted Orlando, enraged at all the cruelty he has witnessed, kills the massive beast. The final part of the battle sees the Blackrobe Rats attacking again and Matthias surviving the fall, meeting Malkariss and witnessing his death thanks to some escaped slaves. Matthias hears Mattimeo's voice, fights through the vermin with the Bloodwrath in his eyes, and the two are reunited. Mattimeo's band joins the battle and the rats are all killed, with Nadaz also perishing when Matthias and Orlando destroy the huge limestone statue he is hiding in.
